Trauma is much more then the 'Gross' versions of trauma such as:
It is also 'Subtle' trauma such as:
and the list goes on.....
The tragic truth is that it is usually easier to heal 'Gross' / Obvious trauma as it is just that - obvious - people are conscious of what they need to heal.
'Subtle' / far from obvious trauma, 'NORMALISED' trauma, People do not think twice about these human experiences - let alone perceive the possible, major trauma that occurs for people at these basic levels of human experience. Even the most leading edge psychotherapy schools only touch upon a couple of these subcategory's of trauma. Why is this the case?
It is called the 'Unconscious' for a reason. We are simply NOT CONSCIOUS of what our defenses *REPPRESSED without our rational mind even being aware they had done so.
* Repression is the automatic, without our rational decision making process, phenomena of our defenses deeming an experience as 'too painful' for us to consciously process it.
This is very different to SUPPRESSION which is a more gradual, rational decision to keep 'pushing back or pushing aside' a memory of an experience as we personally find the experience too difficult to process.
When you combine our genius 'defenses' which have evolved over millions of years, with the phenomena that us humans can feel extremely threatened by the notion that we are more often then not totally powerless and at the mercy of our unconscious thoughts & dictates - thought & dictates which fly against our conscious thoughts, desires and plans - and make us look 'stupid' to ourselves & others - you gain an understanding of how basic units us humans are - also very, very threatening to all those extremely intelligent people suffering from mental illness, right? Much easier to save face and say "I dunno.... what do you think Doc?".... and all your Doc can say, basing his information on academic textbooks decades behind current times is "Mmmmm... I think you should take these pills"
At The Anxiety & depression Solution we have had access to what can only be described as the ultimate 'Defense Displacement Technique' for over 30 years. This has enabled us to appreciate that the subtle level of trauma actually results in a much bigger build up than the 'gross level' of trauma.
These categories require a crucial acknowledgement & resolution if humanity wants to takes 'mental illness' outside its 'mysterious causes; narrative.
If there was one (1) main takeaway from all our experience it is this:
We are at a level of collective denial where the person who feels pity & pain for the child who was sexually interfered with unfortunately 9 times out of 10 has a much greater build up of trauma in their bodymind systems by simply being born, if male, maybe circumcised, were an infant, had religious parents, went to school etc. this is why people STILL only perceive trauma as sexual abuse, violent households, war trauma and the like...
